What I Did To Make Losing Weight Easy Most People Have Never Tried This

The one simple little strategy I used to make losing weight easy.

Hi there, I would like to share with you a little about what I did to make losing weight easy and my weight loss story.

It is not one of those “I lost 150 lbs” weight loss stories, however, it is probably a more typical weight loss story that people struggle with as they age. That is, of a slowing metabolism and an increased interest in eating good food.

I, like many, continue to add more pounds every year. Of course, Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving and Summer BBQs are all good for a few extra pounds. Ten pounds on, five pounds off. Regardless, every year I would end up with more fat on my body than the year before.

After many years I finally had enough and decided that I seriously wanted to lose weight.

When I was 228 plus. I don't have too many full body pictures of myself when I am heavier. Here I use my girlfriend to hide my body…lol

Getting Started

So as part of my weight loss challenge, I decided to calculate my Body Mass Index (BMI). According to the calculator, I was over thirty which is considered mildly obese.

WHAT? Ok, I can admit I'm a little overweight and might even be so bold as to say a little chubby, but obese? Well, according to the BMI rating that was where I ranked.

Ok, so I got over that on with the weight loss.

The first time I lost a fair amount of weight was in 2009. I hired a trainer and followed a rigorous high-intensity high cardio worked regime, But I didn't pay much attention to my diet or nutrition. My weight loss was slow, but I got down to about 190 lbs, losing close to the 40 pounds.

Back to Square One

Unfortunately, I strayed away from my program, and within a year I was close to 230 again.

The second time I lost weight was again because I had finally had enough of feeling like a stuffed cow. I was spending time in the Philippines with my girlfriend and decided to get rid of my extra weight, again.

This time I got some help from a friend and focused more on my diet and cardio which was primarily running. However, most of my weight loss was by managing my food intake. The primary focus of my diet was to cut carbs and sugar and limit calories.

Sounds relatively normal as most diets go but this was more of a Ketogenic Diet or better known as The Atkins Diet. I didn't follow any real plan. So I cut carbs and sugar and tracked every calorie I ate with a great food tracking app called tap and track.

The stats for my weight loss effort are as follows:

On January 30th, 2013 I weighed 212.9, (I was a little heavier than that, but this is when I started to track my progress).

On April 6th, 2013, I weighed in at 179.8, down 33.1 lbs and two pant sizes.

I am currently in the process of my third weight loss journey, because yes, I did put a lot of that weight back on. Down 22 lbs with 12 more to go before I reach my goal again of 190 pounds.

My Secret Motivator

Oh so here it is, my little secret that I did that made losing weight easy

I made a weight loss bet of $1000. I lose the weight or lose my money.

The bet was as follows; I would reach my weight loss goal of 180 lbs by April 15th (2.5 months).

That might sound a little extreme. But it was the only way I could get serious about losing that much weight, and it worked!

When I hit my goal, I got my money back. I did leave $300 as a maintain bet. And I got that back a month later for staying within five pounds of my goal.

Sadly though as the story goes over the next year and a half I gained a lot of the weight back.

So now  I  am losing weight for the third time. However, I am doing it without a bet. Fortunately, my memory of how great I felt when my weight was down is motivation enough to do it again.

I am now in the process of successfully losing weight three times.

Approximately 30 to 40 lbs each time. The most I have weighed is about 230 lbs, and I am 6 feet tall.

Keeping it Off

My next quest is to learn how to keep it off. I think that keeping weight off is a much harder challenge than the initial loss.

I know that I am going to find a way to do this since I initially figured out a way lose weight.

Maybe I will put some money down again, perhaps more than $1000 because I do like to eat and I have a terrible sweet tooth.

At any rate, the real difference maker for me was putting down some hard cash and being accountable, and the challenge was much easier rather than doing it on my own.
